    Education is a top priority for Pikeville and it is exhibited all over the community. The hard work and dedication of the city and its regional and State leaders, we have become a regional education hub for Eastern Kentucky. With the University of Pikeville, Big Sandy Community & Technical College, and Pikeville Independent Schools we are improving our community and our future by educating both the current workforce and the younger generations.

    Pikeville, Kentucky has a quality of life that rivals almost anywhere. CNBC recently ranked Kentucky number one in the nation for the lowest cost of living and Pikeville has been twice voted as one of the best small towns to live. We celebrate our culture and mountain heritage with the second largest festival in Kentucky every April. It attracts more than 100,000 people each year. From a retail hub to an outdoor destination, we have something for everyone. We have many brand name stores and restaurants as well as some local favorites.

    It is a 130,000 square foot area with a 7,000 seat capacity in the heart of downtown. Recent acts have included: Chris Stapleton, Hank Williams Jr., Trace Adkins, Alice Cooper, Martina McBride, 3 Doors Down, Lynard Skynard, Godsmack, Kid Rock as well as Disney on Ice, Motorsports, Sesame Street Live, and Monster Trucks. It is also an excellent conference center that has full service catering available and several meeting rooms to accommodate trainings, conferences, and more.

    The Appalachian Center for the Arts (The APP) is a vibrant new venue for the arts located in downtown Pikeville. The APP presents a full season of mainstage and children’s programs along with educational camps for students ages 7 to 17. The APP believes in the future of Eastern Kentucky and strives to create a thriving regional arts hub here in Pikeville. Live theatre is an expression of our souls, and The APP is alive with the music and stories of our area. Stop by and see us soon!

    Includes horseback riding at Dream Stablez, Ziplining at White Lightning Zipline, kayaking, tubing, and canoeing at the Hatfield and McCoy River Trails and Adventure, many hiking and walking trails are located at the Bob Amos Sports Park. Pikeville is also known for its many 5K races throughout the year.

    The Jenny Wiley State Resort Park offers a variety of recreational activities including boating, fishing, theatre, camping, golfing, hiking, and many others. Jenny Wiley State Resort Park has 1,100 acres around Dewey Lake that showcase the beautiful waters and mountain areas.

    With an elevation of 2,700 ft. Kingdom Come State Park shows several amazing rock formations throughout the park, including Log Rock, a natural sandstone bridge, and Raven Rock, a giant rock exposure that soars 290 feet into the air at a 45-degree angle.

    The Hatfield and McCoy Trails is an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), dirt bike, and utility terrain vehicle (UTV) trail that goes through nine Southern West Virginia counties. The trail systems are open all year and connect many communities in West Virginia that are “ATV Friendly.”
